Family-friendly vacation rentals in Arco da Calheta

Leonel and his wife have created a cluster of wonderful apartments born out of absolute passion and love for the region and his family’s heritage. My wife and I stayed in the 3-bedroom apartment with its own private roof terrace overlooking the outdoor pool. The accommodation is located amongst the towering lush green mountain scape. The kitchen is really well equipped with an oven, microwave, hobs and double sink. A stunning location & apartment. Beware that no paper products can be flushed down the toilet, so there’s a separate bin for this…

Carlos and Maria were great, so friendly and ready to help with anything we needed, a rental car, instructions and cleaning.

Leonel is super friendly and helpful. The apartment is clean and in the quiet area. It was hard to leave, especially the SPA and swimming pool :( Big parking space, highly recommended!

Garry contacted us directly and made the arrival very easy for us. We were received by him in a very friendly manner and he had great tips for us on how to spend the time in Madeira well. The accommodation was well equipped - the jacuzzi was of course the absolute highlight that made our stay special. Since the weather on the island changes very quickly, it was the perfect way for us to relax there if the weather did not play along. The location is great for walks in the nearby Levadas. It was very clean and well maintained, so we felt comfortable. Thank you!

Amazing Villa! Our family had a great New Year in Madeira. The Villa was perfect, clean tidy safe for children and most of all we managed to catch the fireworks from the end of the terrace! Highly recommended and will be stopping here again next time we visit Madeira.

Our stay was amazing, the hostess was attentive from the beginning. When we arrived at the apartment, we were greeted with some delicious treats. We had a great stay at Paula's place. She responded very quickly to messages and welcomed us herself and showed us around. She also gave us a list of various recommendations- both for places to visit and very good restaurants. She also helped us get a good deal for a car rental. The apartment itself was super well equipped. Paula had even left for us beach towels and a fresh bag of coffee which we found a nice gesture. The location is very good, close to cafes, a big supermarket and down the stairs to the beach. Yes it's steep to get there but this is Madeira! There's not much to dislike. Maybe the bed was a bit hard and narrow but we still slept quite well tired after long days. The water in the pool was also rather on a cold side but it didn't stop the kids from swimming every day.

The apartment was spotless. Showers were great and beds comfy. Well equipped and a beautiful view of the hill from the living room and bedroom. The apartment was a 15 mins walk uphill from town and is on a dual carriageway which was noisy from early on weekday mornings even with the doors closed. This may be an issue if you’re light sleepers. Betty was a superstar!! Excellent recommendations and communication throughout our stay and went out of her way to drop beach towels to us.

The apartment was clean, with all the amenities needed to live. The location is very convenient for people who want to explore Madeira. The host was very kind :) recommended local restaurants and recommended the best places to park in Funchal.

We had a wonderful 10 days staying at Gary’s apartment. You could not wish for a better location in the heart of the Old Town. Everything we needed - sights, buses, restaurants. Supermarket and the bonus of the Xmas lights were on our doorstep. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this apartment.

We had two wonderful weeks in Rodrigos apartment. The apartment is superbly equipped and has far more equipment than the average AirBnB. You immediately notice that Rodrigo pays great attention to high-quality things, from the kitchen equipment and gadgets for hikes etc. to the mattress and pillows. There is also a desk and gaming chair for home office. The internet is stable, very fast and very suitable for remote workers. Rodrigo is the perfect host, who gave us bananas from his garden, which made our breakfasts delicious every day. He lives on the first floor, so he is always available for questions or advice, but otherwise not intrusive or very present. As I said - the perfect host. We would book again at any time to have a delightful time on Madeira.

We stayed at this property for the third time: the location right by the sea is fantastic and unbeatable as a starting point for many hikes in the immediate vicinity. The apartment is equipped with everything you need. The sofa in the living room should perhaps be renewed or the covers washed, because there are signs of wear and tear. The outdoor area is definitely a clear recommendation.

We had a great stay and the location is sensational. There was everything you needed and we were also set up the travel cot before arrival.

TLDR: Sofia and her place rock. Don’t stay anywhere else on Madeira. Sofia’s place is one of the best Air BnBs we have ever stayed in. The views from the porch and balcony are beautiful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The house has a chill, calming vibe, especially with some music playing and a breeze blowing through the open windows. The kitchen has everything you could ever need to cook with and serve food on. Plates, bowls, pots, pans galore! We spent most of our time at Sofia’s place eating or lounging on the front porch. If you don’t feel like cooking, the eclectic Joe’s Bar is about 100 steps from the house, depending on your stride. Everything on the menu is fresh and delicious. The staff is delightful. Jardim do Mar is a hidden gem on Madeira. The town is clean and well taken care of. There is something special around each corner. Great food at Joe’s Bar. Stone benches with stunning views of the waves as they crash against the sea wall. Beautiful plants.

We stayed at this place for one week and had a wonderful time. The house is in the middle of a small banana plantation, and upon our arrival, we were greeted with a bunch of local bananas and a mango from Veronica. The beach is within walking distance. The road leading to the house is a quiet, private, local route that takes you through two tunnels and past some waterfalls, adding to the charm and excitement of the place. The house was well-equipped with everything we needed. Veronica is an amazing host—very responsive and always helpful. We definitely recommend this place for a stay!

The house is very spacious, nice, clean and maintained. It has everything you need for a longer stay. Our kids loved the pool. The place is rather quiet (just some dog barking occasionally) and small but beautiful. There are restaurants and a cafe with mini market. A larger supermarket is about 10-15 minutes away. A rental car makes sense if you live in Porto da Cruz and want to make excursions. There are also buses. The car can be parked on the premises. Access to the house is possible without extremely steep roads (as it often exists in Madeira). We felt very comfortable in the house for 2 weeks and can highly recommend it.

This was an exceptional villa and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The outside area is second to none with the most beautiful views. The sitting areas are varied and very comfortable indeed. We had a wonderful break there for three weeks. Filomena was extremely responsive and helpful in the run up to, as well as during our stay. The villa is ideally located with just one steep hill to climb and is a 10-15 minute walk from the old town. We would definitely consider rebooking this villa.

Carla and Bruno are great hosts. We were greeted by Bruno when arrived. Bruno explained everything about the house and gave us a lot recommendations about activities and restaurants on the island. I can highly recommend Carla's and Bruno's house to other guests. Thanks a lot for everything!

Very quiet area in a rural village, away from the big tourism. Cottage with large garden where you could sit quietly in several places depending on how the sun stood. Great views, large and equipped kitchen. Easy to explore the island by car!

we loved the location - it is a drive away from the main attractions which was great for us as we enjoyed the peace and quiet Sandra was super helpful and we had no problems during the stay the flat provides everything you need, not a high end place but we didn't care about the fancy design -everything was clean and up to date
