Lake houses in Rathbun Lake

Our family had a great time! The kids had a blast fishing and swimming in the pond. It’s definitely a great spot to get away from the business of life.

Great place and a very responsive and accommodating host. This house is in a great location close to Rathbun Lake and amenities in Centerville. Would recommend for anyone going to the area.

Book it! This is the place to stay if you are within 100 miles of Chariton, Iowa. The house is huge, with five beds, four couches, two baths, a big kitchen, and plenty of room to relax. Maybe the best part of it all is the garage. The owner insists that you park in the garage and out of the elements. That was really nice since our stay was in the winter, but I could see it being nice in the summer too. The house and garage are one thing, but the property is another. I believe there are 30 total acres we could roam. We went sledding and talked about ice fishing but did not know how cold it had been. the hills out back roll beautifully, redoing a barn/pavilion. I could see us going out there in nice weather to eat and watch the sunset in the west. It's just beautiful. Finally, the history of the home makes it even more enjoyable. I did not get the full lesson, but there is some online and on the FB page; you gotta read it; Chariton is a cool spot. Always has been.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hideaway Retreat in Melrose. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing getaway. When we lost a bolt out of our boat trailer, Dianne was able to find a replacement to get us back on the road and in the water. And hardware wasn't even on the list of things provided! How's that for service?

This place was awesome. Very nice and well maintained. Loved the country feel. Every bit worth the money. Host was very helpful and even checked to make sure we made it and if we needed anything. Would highly recommend and will definitely stay there again in the future.

We were in town for a wedding and it was a nice place to stay. The views were beautiful and the area peaceful. The checkout process was easy.

The place was great overall. My only complaints would be that there was a lot of noise from a UTV driving by constantly, and there were a lot of dead bugs around the door and windows. A quick check before my arrival would have been appreciated.

I came in late and they did such a nice job accommodating me and my pup. Also a really nice breakfast with Celeste’s family. An incredible old building with wonderful antiques and a friendly, laid back midwestern vibe. Perfect stop on my road trip. Thank you

We stayed at Big Bear and it was awesome! If you wanted a cabin atmosphere this is the place to do it. We loved it!
