Monthly Rentals in Otaki, Kiso District

Anju’s place was a major highlight of our 3 week Japan trip. We stayed for one night while hiking the Nakasendo and it was one of the most welcoming, lovely experiences we’ve ever had. Anju was so communicative and responsive, and she helped us out a lot when we had to check in later than expected. The home is so beautiful and your bedroom window overlooks an exquisitely beautiful bridge and mountains. Also her mother has an incredible restaurant and the family runs a beautiful cafe, all very close-by. I only wish we had more time there so we will 1000% be coming back on our next trip to Japan.

We did have a great stay here. The location is ideal for the Nakasendo walk. We had ideal day for walking through villages from Magome to Nagiso among blooming cherry trees and through cedar forests. Narai town was also wonderful for a day trip. What an atmospheric place. So great access to these places. That said, the accommodation was rustic and charming. But, as it was early April, the heating was not quite adequate in evenings and mornings. Also, though there were stools in the dining area, you will need to be happy to sit on the floor as there is only one bean bag chair. Beyond that, kitchen facilities were fine and shower was great. The host was really fantastic and helped us immensely when my friend lost his credit card. So, all in all, a great stay, but be prepared for a bit rustic and maybe a bit cold if it’s early or late in the season.

The stay at Gaku's cabin was lovely. I stayed with my family and several small children included. It is located high up with a magnificent view of the mountains, unfortunately we could not see the starry sky as we had rain and snow. The cabin is in a strategic location if you want to travel and get to know the nearby towns, for which you will need private transportation. We had direct communication with Gaku's parents who were very friendly and ready to help with whatever we needed. I recommend it 🙏
