highest mountain in ireland at 1000m and will need to hire a tour guide. actually most people with a reasonable level of fitness can climb it. i did this a few years ago and found it mamageable.
This is a full day hike up Ireland's highest mountain. It's a gorgeous way to spend a day, especially if you get good weather up on the top. It's not a technical climb but it is a long one. This hike is not for small children or the elderly... or for people who have never hiked before. It is definitely a doable trip for active walkers or fit folks. We offer guided day walks including lunch for a reasonable price. Damien is an experienced climber and has trekked in locations such as India, Pakistan, Bolivia and Chile.

Ireland’s highest peak is right at the doorstep. We recommend parking at the Hydro Road car park for a quieter walk up into the mountains. From here you can access the Caher and Caher West peaks. You can also reach Carrauntoohill from here via a ridge walk around Caher, but it’s a long hike. The walk to the basin of the Reeks isn’t too tough (after the initial climb out of the parking lot, which is a little steep). For an easier, more direct approach to Carrauntoohill, you can use Cronin’s Yard (€2 parking fee, so make sure you have a €2 coin!).

The most popular starting point for a trek up Ireland's highest mountain is an eight minute drive from White Cottage Barn. Hike through the Hag's Glen to two lakes circled by the mountains. Consider hiring a guide for a hike up Carrauntoohil, as it is a serious mountain walk, and should only be attempted in good weather.
