One of the best pizza joints in the area and it's right across the street! It's more of a sit down than a grab-n-go, but you can do take out. It's very popular so call ahead.

It doesn't have the best ratings on Yelp, but as a local I'm telling you it's the best place to quickly grab a cheap slice if you're short on time.

My local supermarket, has everything. Some of the prices might cause sticker-shock, but for Manhattan it's not too bad and it doesn't have the insane lines of Trader Joe's. They also do free delivery!

Great bagels. Might have a line if you go prime time on weekends (11am-2pm). Can also try Tompkins Square Bagels.

One of my two favorite bagel spots in the East Village. Will have a long line during prime time on the weekends so go a little early (10am or earlier).

I used to live down in this area, and there a few top notch coffee spots around, Happy Bones being one of them. Counter Culture coffee served.

A mini version of Whole Foods that has great coffee. They have many different roasters, including Stumptown. It's the definition of the gentrification of Chinatown - you might walk right past it!

My go-to coffee spot by the apartment. They have fantastic coffee and espresso. The owner is very friendly and will tell you as little or as much as you'd like to know about the coffee.

Best pizza I've ever had in NYC. A bit of a trip from the apartment, but if you find yourself in north Williamsburg/Greenpoint, it is 100% worth a stop in. GET THE HOT HONEY!

Higher-end market with foods from all cultures and the bottom of the High Line. Great way to start or finish a walk on the High Line.

Right across the street from the apartment, Luzzo's has a little of everything Italian - great pizzas, pastas and wine all for a good price. If you're looking for somewhere close by after a long day, this is it.

BEST BRISKET SANDWICHES! Forget about Katz's Deli - that place is an overrated, overpriced tourist shop. Harry & Ida's on the other hand has the best smoked meat sandwiches I've ever had. A little pricey for a sandwich ($15-20) but it's worth stopping by for a sample at the very least.

Drinks & Nightlife

Hidden speakeasy bar on the LES. Not utterly pretentious either. I don't want to ruin the atmosphere of surprise, but there will be a bouncer standing at a gate if you walk to this location.

A short walk from the apartment, the Grafton has a little outdoor space in the back. Good for some sun and a place to catch a drink before getting ready for dinner.

Entertainment & Activities

This probably won't be on most guides, but there's a mini-golf course here for $5! (only open spring/summer) It's walkable from the Freedom Tower.

Sightseeing

The High Line is an elevated garden walkway that stretches for about 20 blocks above 10th Avenue on the West Side. Built on reclaimed industrial railroad tracks, there are places along the walk to grab some food and beer. I'd recommend starting at the north around 34th Street and ending at the south, going to Chelsea Market or the Standard Beer Garden when you're done.

Shopping

If you want to shop, walk over to SoHo. From Broadway to West Broadway, and Houston to Canal, these 4-5 square blocks offer everything from women's fashion, to men's suits, to outdoor and sporting gear, to Apple!
