Traveler advice

Getting around

You MUST have a personal vehicle.

Host's home is accessible over well-maintained gravel roads, but the last half mile requires a 4WD vehicle. There is NO public transportation in this area. Guests who do not have a suitable vehicle for the steep road may park in a secure enclosed space and rent a 4WD side-by-side Kawasaki Mule for an additional $30 per day. The host can transport luggage and deliver guests by pickup truck if necessary.
Customs and culture

Rural America with nearby tourist and sporting attractions

The natives are generally friendly but value their privacy and many are reclusive and prefer not to be annoyed. Private property should be respected, and hunters or sightseers should ALWAYS ask permission before entering fenced areas. A HARD AND FAST RULE: If you pass through a closed gate, CLOSE IT BEHIND YOU. This is cattle country, and people will become extremely perturbed if you let their cattle or horses out. This is undoubtedly one of the safest places in the world, crime is practically nonexistent, and few people lock their doors.
Book before you go

Major tourist attractions may be crowded June-September.

Float trips and guided fishing trips should be booked in advance.
What to pack

If you plan to hike, fish, or float the river:

Bring sunscreen, hats, stout shoes, and insect repellent. Ticks can be an annoyance if you get into the woods or high weeds.
Useful phrases

Common courtesy is expected.

Please, thank you, yes sir and yes ma'am are appreciated.
