Our family loved our weekend away at Kathy’s - she’s an amazing host! Always quick to respond when and if we needed her. She even left us baked goodies and snacks for check-in which was so thoughtful of her. The entire place was beautiful and clean.

An amazing stay at David's place! It's the perfect weekend getaway for 12 close friends. The outside fire area was incredible, as well as the sauna. Just remember to bring your own firewood! It had lots of space and was exactly the way it was described. David was also always quick to respond, thank you David!

Rustic and Spacious Lakefront Oasis in Nature.

EowynRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Perfect peaceful cottage on the lake. So many beds available but the spaces don’t feel crowded even with many people in the house. Cozy and truly authentic cottage feel. My son felt like the bunkie was his own piece of heaven. We appreciated the outdoor amenities such as kayaks and canoe. Even on the crisp late October days we visited we enjoyed the lake, and the wood stove kept us snug in the evening. Nathan was incredibly responsive and helpful. Just a wonderful visit overall.

OakRidge Retreat-HOT TUB 100s of acres WIFI

AlisonRating, 5 stars4 days ago
We had a lovely time at Pat’s place. The house is huge and a great size for 8 adults. We really enjoyed the hot tub and sauna and felt the living area was very well set up for socialising. We had a few exciting games of crockinole! The price was also very reasonable although I guess January is off peak. We highly recommend Pat’s place and will likely be back next year for another ski weekend!

Snowmobile/ATV trails & Hot Tub - Benoir Lake

AndyRating, 5 stars4 months ago
The Sand Point Lodge is by far the best Airbnb experience my wife and I had. Danielle’s family cottage is so enchanting, the wooden rustic interior and exterior provided a warm and cozy atmosphere. It is very well equipped with all the bare necessities for anyone staying here to enjoy a good time. Our little guy really enjoyed running around the large grassed lawn and playing with all the kids toys left behind. It was a big bonus for my wife and I to unwind in the outdoor hot tub while overlooking the dazzling stars. Being able to relax with my family over the outdoor fire pit and singing along to some good old camp fire songs was definitely a memorable experience. We highly recommend Danielle’s family cottage to family’s and couples that want to unwind from the hustle and the bustle away from the city life. My family and I would definitely be returning for a future stay. Danielle was always super prompt with replying my messages and providing information to us to better our stay

Modern Yellow Cottage Harbourtown Marina

AutumnRating, 5 stars5 months ago
We’ve been staying at Jessica’s properties for the past four years and always enjoy our stay. If you have a boat or other water vessel, this place provides a free slip for the duration of your stay which is great! Jessica’s properties are always extremely clean, free of clutter and provide all the necessities and more! The restaurant and general store at the marina (on site) are very convenient. If you do have a boat or rent one on site, be sure to visit Juniper Island! It’s always a fav of ours to visit.

M&M's Waterfront Cottage - Getaway into nature!

ShahinRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This is a cozy, clean, and beautiful cottage where we had a wonderful weekend with our friends. The host was excellent—very responsive and accommodating. Check-in and check-out were seamless and hassle-free. The only downside was the late check-in time (3 PM) and early check-out time (10 AM), which felt a bit restrictive. Overall, it was a great experience!

Muskoka Cabana - Sandy beach cottage in Muskoka

VasilikiRating, 5 stars3 months ago
We really enjoyed our stay at Muskoka Cabana. The location is stunning, right at the water's edge with beautiful, peaceful views of the lake. The outside deck is amazing and really spacious. We did feel that the access was a bit tricky, but I guess the location compensated for that. The cabana itself is really tastefully done, with beautiful homey touches and the kitchen was well equipped. Overall, this was a great stay.

LUX Lakefront: Slps18+Pickleball+HotTub+Sauna+MORE

TaylorRating, 5 stars6 days ago
What an awesome winter getaway! There were no shortage of indoor activities in the games room to keep us occupied and the hot tub/sauna were top notch during the winter. The place is huge with private, quiet, and comfortable rooms for everyone. Conveniently located close to town for groceries or a meal out. Matt was a super responsive host and went above and beyond when he helped ship us back our baby monitor which we had unfortunately forgotten. I can only imagine how even more amazing this place would be in the summer.

Your guide to Kennisis Lake

All About Kennisis Lake

Located in Haliburton Highlands in southeastern Central Ontario, the 4,100-acre Kennisis Lake invites visitors to explore its rocky, irregular shoreline in canoes or kayaks, sample freshly caught perch and bass dishes at local restaurants, and cast a line or two of their own for trout and walleye. The local wildlife isn’t confined to the water — the forests that envelop the lake are home to bears and moose.

In summer, the lake’s deep blue waters are an ideal spot to spend sunny days power boating, water skiing, and pontooning, while winter trips are rewarded with snowmobile paths and miles of skiing and snowshoeing trails to the south. A trip west to nearby Dorset Lookout Tower will give you the lay of the land — the observation deck on the former fire lookout tower sits 465 feet high above Lake of Bays.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Kennisis Lake

The best time to book a Kennisis Lake cottage rental is in June or July. The temperature is moderate and the days are sunny, providing the perfect conditions for scenic hikes or days out on the water in a kayak or on a paddleboard. The area is a popular summer destination, with swimming courses and outdoor activities on offer during peak season.

The forests surrounding the lake are best explored during fall, when the maple and aspen in Haliburton Forest are at their most resplendent. Winter sports aficionados head to the region once the leaves have fallen, as a number of ski resorts and cross-country skiing trails are within easy reach of the lake.

Top things to do in Kennisis Lake

Fishing

Kennisis Lake is a haven for fishing enthusiasts, from experienced anglers to beginners. During extremely cold weather, ice fishers drill rectangular holes into the lake’s frozen surface and catch Haliburton Gold lake trout by sending hooks or spears into the icy depths.

Norah’s Island

At 22 acres, Norah’s Island is the largest island in Kennisis Lake. According to the final wishes of its previous owner, the island was donated to a land trust to protect it from development. It features native trees, some bat species, and rare varieties of orchids. Visitors can travel here by boat for tranquil picnics among the ferns and honeysuckle.

Boating

While there are plenty of opportunities to admire the lake’s placid waters from the rocky shore, boats are the most popular way to enjoy them. The south shore marina offers supplies, licenses, lessons, and boat rentals if you’re keen to skipper your own vessel. Alternatively, you can leave the controls to a professional. Keep a lookout for deer and waterfowl appearing between the trees.
